Outreach

The Outreach committee focuses on giving back to the community through volunteer events and various skills workshops. Through providing an accessible STEM education and creating opportunities for collaboration, we hope to foster a sense of community within BMES, K-12 students, STEM educators and enthusiasts in the greater San Diego region because engineering is for everyone! In Outreach, we build community by volunteering with local organizations, including Feeding San Diego, Light the Night, and Father Joe’s Soup Kitchen. Throughout the year, we develop engaging and educational materials and projects to present at the San Diego Festival for Science and Engineering and STEM education fairs for local youth. This year, we aim to facilitate mentorship between UCSD undergraduates and STEM-motivated high school students. Additionally, we organize workshops and hands-on projects using Arduino, CAD, and other practical engineering tools. We are looking forward to another outstanding year in Outreach and we hope you can join us in our endeavors!

We are currently meeting on Mondays, in PFBH 291. Our next meeting will be on Monday at 5:30 p.m..

Hi!! My name is Abby and I'm one of this year's Outreach Officers! I'm a second year Bioengineering: Biotechnology major in Seventh and I'm starting in the Cyphert Lab this fall. I'm looking forward to another incredible year in Outreach after serving as a sublead in last year's committee and volunteering at many events, including SDFSE, Imperial Valley STEAM Day, and Feeding San Diego. In my free time, I love baking, traveling, hiking, and playing board games. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about Outreach or anything else!

Volunteering at Feeding San Diego

Tue, Oct 21st, 6 p.m.

We have 10 positions open to volunteer with us at Feeding San Diego, a local hunger-relief and food rescue organization. We will be packing and organizing donated food for our community.

Light the Night 2025

Sat, Nov 1st, noon

Light the Night is an annual remembrance event by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society that honors those affected by blood cancer and raises funds and awareness for life-saving research. We will be assisting with event set up so those affected can celebrate with their loved ones, light lanterns, and partake in the Honorary Walk. We have 24 volunteer spots open for the set-up shift, with varying roles available.
